task

An automated geoprocessing workflow that administrators can configure. A typical task may involve several multi-step procedures, with values that you enter before it is sent to an ArcGIS Server geoprocessing service. Results are then provided by the ArcGIS Server geoprocessing service when the task has been processed.

thematic mapping

Ability to display maps whose features are rendered using symbols and colors based on values of associated attributes. OnPoint can display simple themes where all features in the theme are represented using the same symbols, or several themes can be created for a single layer using classification methods. See theme.

In thematic mapping you create a theme to assign distinguishing colors or symbols to map features according to the value of that feature to help you recognize patterns or trends. A simple theme has all its features rendered using the same symbols or colors. A class break theme has features rendered based on numeric values in a specific range. All features in each range (class break) are displayed using the same symbols or colors. A unique value theme identifies the unique values for features in a layer and renders each value with a different symbol or color.
